AN AUTUMN GLIMPSE

Autumn is by far my favorite season of all. I cannot get enough of the cool crisp days full of glorious , brilliant color.
Unfortunately, it does not last long enough for me. It is just a glimpse---quick fleeting moments before the icy winter weather takes over.
This year we were so lucky to spend a beautiful week in New York with my mom & dad. We were able to share in all the stories they had of where they grew up. I think it was important for the kids to be able to learn more about their grandparents.
It was a true gift that I will treasure forever.

We also discovered a beautiful place to enjoy the outdoors, right here in our own "backyard".

We will definitely be taking advantage of this for years to come.

I know I have not been a very good blogger lately. I have been trying to get back into the swing of things since Summer. But, it has been slow going. I'm pretty sure I have had a bad case of blogger"s block.

I do believe my block has been cleared.

THE PEACHIEST MAIL INDEED

I srtolled down to my mailbox today, just like any other ordinary day, thinking about what will await me inside that black, metal box. Bills, junk mail, various catalogs--nothing too exciting.
But, look what I found inside, on this fine September day, among the bills and pizza flyers! I was giddy with delight!
My very own copy of Dottie Angel's new book, the second in the Suitcase Series from Uppercase.
I couldn't get inside my door fast enough, to see and touch it in person---I have been anticipating it's arrival for the longest time.

The cover and the back are very tactile with thread and fabric. LOVE!

And look at the goodies that were included if you pre-ordered the book. Vintage buttons, thread, a beautiful fabric scrap, a doily bit and the sweetest little postcard.

LOVE LOVE!

And then....I opened it. The smell---that wonderful book smell---do you know what I'm talking about?

Then, I flipped through the pages ever so briefly just to take a tiny peek.

LOVE LOVE LOVE...

and LOVE some more.

I cannot wait to sit down in my favorite chair with a cup of tea and savor each and every page, for Dottie Angel has been a true inspiration to me for a long long time.

It truly is a beautiful book, one to cherish forever. A perfect souvenir for Kelli to keep in a special spot in her studio.

Congrats to Uppercase and to Tif Fussel for creating such a Peachy Book!

SUMMER SCENES

Wow! Our Summer flew by so quickly. It has been a lovely one, full of memories to last a lifetime.

The kids go back to school on Wednesday--already! For me, it's bittersweet. I'll miss them, but it will be good to get back to a regular routine, with much more time to get things done around the house as well as much needed time to work in my poor neglected studio.

I have many photos to share with you. But, instead of long, in depth detail of each, I'll let the photos tell the story.

A Very Kelli Journal

Thought I would share the latest finished project from my studio, on this very hot humid Monday.
I received a sketchbook from Chloe, for Mother's Day, full of glorious thick, textured, watercolor paper. I decided it needed a cover, that has "Me" written all over it!
The book is small enough that I can fit into my tote along with my favorite markers and pencils. I love that I can take something to doodle in, wherever I go.
Sketching or doodling is one of the things I wanted to get back into this year. I have fallen out of practice, and have forgotten how much I love to do it. I have never considered myself very good at drawing. I just find it fun and relaxing---it's right up there with stitching!

For the cover, I used a mix of vintage and new fabric that I had in my stash. The bird pieces you see on the front and back are from my good friend, Hope. She knows I like birds. They worked perfectly for this project.
I didn't have a plan at all, when I started, I just added bits and pieces that I loved. I even added a pocket on the back!

The photo below is of the inside front flap.

And here is the back flap. I'm still practicing my free motion embroidery on my sewing machine.

I thought I would also share the few pages I have started on, inside. The photo below is of a page I had a lot of fun with. Not a whole lot of doodling, but I think that is OK too. I have a thing for pretty paper and love to use it whenever I can. I started the page with a rose cut from fabric, and sewed it to paper. I then added other bits of paper that I like. I left room for writing---which I will fill in---someday.

Here, I added an old book page that I had doodled on.

The page below, was inspired by this quote from Mark Twain. Love the quote so much, I'm adding it to my quilt as well.

Last, but not least, are my doodled elephants. On one beautiful day, a couple weeks ago, my girls and I sat outside at the patio table and doodled together. We had all our markers, crayons and pencils spread about, filling up the whole table....
And I was loving every minute of it!

New Memoir Keepers

Just stopping in to let you know that I have restocked the shop with new Memoir Keepers.

Two of them are much thicker with 192 plain pages to doodle, sketch or write to your hearts content.

I truly enjoy creating the Memoir Keepers. I hope you like them too!

Summer with the kids is already passing by too quickly.

Sigh...so many things to do---so little time.

A SUMMER PROJECT

Just look at this lovely bouquet of yummy colors. Summer inspired threads to add to my new summer project.

All of these goodies (which make me giddy everytime I look at them) will be used in my Summer project, inspired by this very creative person. I will be working on a quilt. Something of an heirloom to hopefully pass on to my kids someday. I will be hand stitching, free embroidery with the help of Miss Mabelle, adding pretty little bits and bobs of fabric, doilies, hankies and dresser scarves all on a base of pillow cases sewn together. I have already started with the little horse you see in the photo. Abby sketched her famous horse in her own little Abby style and I stitched it into a palomino (her favorite kind of horse). Then I snipped small circles from a favorite dress of hers when she was little, and stitched them around the doily. The doily will then be sewn onto the quilt wherever it may suit my fancy at the time.

I have many ideas floating in my head---things I would like to add to the quilt. Maybe a few favorite quotes or stitchings to remember special family events or moments. Kinda like a memoir of our family that we can wrap around ourselves and snuggle with.

I'm guessing it might take me a little longer than the summer. But, this is one project I really want to see to the end. Sometimes I start something with good intentions then life gets so busy and my good intentions get pushed to the back burner.

My very good friend, Cammy, is going to do one as well. We made a deal to keep each other in line and stitch together. Now that it is summer, it is something we can both make time for.

I'm REALLY looking forward to it.

Can't wait to dig in and get stitching.

RAINY DAY GARDEN

Hello everyone!
It is a very wet and rainy day, today. But, I could not resist some garden photos.
We started a veggie garden this year with radishes and lettuce. I LOVE the French Breakfast variety. They make a great radish sandwhich, but are also tasty, just plain with a sprinkling of sea salt. YUM. I also read that you can roast them. Double yum. Can't wait to try that.

We are eating LOTS of lettuce as well. There is nothing like a fresh salad picked right from your very own garden.

Spinach too!!

Chives are in full bloom! Love the shade of purple.

A beautiful pansy looking down on me---making me happy.

Knockout Roses are a favorite in my garden. They are virtually carefree and bloom all summer.

And last but not least, my very first Peony. On the verge of opening in all it's glory.

SOME EXCITING NEWS AND A MOTHER'S DAY WISH

Goodness gracious where has the time gone? I haven't been a very good blogger lately. This Spring has been a little extra busy this year. The kids are keeping me busy with school events and such. I'm hoping that this Summer, we will all be able to slow down a bit. I'm dreaming of a week spent at the beach, on the porch watching (and listening) to the waves, my latest stitching project in hand.

I have some exciting news to share with all of you.

I have been invited to be featured on Fabulous Friday (today) over on the Where Women Create blog.

Words can't describe how flattered and honored I am. At the same time, it's a bit scary to put myself out there---it is unfamilar territory for me. I'm used to hanging out in the background, not wanting attention drawn to me.

But this is an amazing thing. It is great exposure for Posies On Parade, and if I want more people to smile when they look at a Petunia, I need to venture out of my comfort zone, right?

So, thanks so much Paige for finding me!

I had visions of a whole bunch of mom flowers, baby flowers, best friend flowers and sister flowers to add to the shop. But time got away from me (again) and they need to stand just right without falling over. I'm still working on it.

My wish--- for a most special Mother's Day to all the moms, moms to be, and grandmas out there. I hope you get to spend the day with the ones who love you most.

To my mom, I wish we can be together, sipping a cold drink on your deck. We will be together in our hearts and just know that I consider myself the luckiest daughter in the world. You have taught me how to be the best mom I can be. For all that you have done for me, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

A POSIES ON PARADE UPDATE

In celebration of Spring's arrival, I have a few new goodies to share with you.
Introducing Buttercup Bunnies. What a grand time, I had, making these happy, little friends. Original designs made of linen, vintage and new fun fabrics. Floppy ears, a handstitched face and fuzzy tails--hoping to bring a smile to your face.

Please meet Estelle. She is the newest addition to the Petunia Posie Family. I especially love her pink hair.

And last but not least, new to the shop....

Memoir Keepers. I absolutely love making these fabric covered journals.

A FINISHED PROJECT

Hello everyone. I hope your Saturday is a beautiful one.

I wanted to show you a project that I finished last night. Last Thursday, Hope and Cammy came over for a bit of crafting and a little lunch. I love it when they both come over and hang out in my studio, I hope they have as much fun as I do. Hope brought a journal cover to work on. It looks amazing--all in Hope's beautiful style. I'm in love with all of Hope's journals---she is a true inspiration.
I started to stitch a spring sampler but then I saw Cammy pull out all her beautiful jewelry bobs. I just had to follow suit. We both bought a bracelet kit from French General while attending Silver Bella in 2009. We have been wanting to make it together for a while, but for one reason or another, we haven't gotten to it yet. She decided to convert hers to a necklace and I loved the idea so much, I did it too. We added our own bits and decided against others that were included in the kit. Basically, winging it with what we had on hand. It is so great to be able to craft together, to bounce ideas off of each other. Unfortunately, we did not have time to finish the necklaces together. Cammy took hers home and finished that same night. I finished mine last night and fairly pleased with how it turned out. I'm anxious to see Cammy's, and see the similarities and differences between the two.

I think my favorite part is the beautiful smokey grey, double sided bauble on the end.

I really love all the colors and how the work together. Thanks girls, for a most terrific day together. Lets do it again soon!

MEET MISS MAYBELLE

I'm here to introduce an exciting addition to my studio? I am so excited about Miss Maybelle, my new, old 1948 singer featherweight. She is a birthday present from my Favorite Guy.

Last week we were browsing around Old Lucketts Store and in a little room on the third floor, there she was---waiting, along with her attachments and little black case, newly refurbished in all her glory. It was love at first sight. David said "lets get it". My lips said "no", but apparently my eyes said "Okay". Sadly, we walked out of the store that day, leaving Maybelle behind . But two days later, David drove all the way back to Lucketts, before he went to work, and brought her home. And let me tell you, I'm so glad he did!
She runs beautifully and I have been happy as can be, sewing goodies when I have a free minute---or free hour.
No need to worry about Miss Bessy Pearl. She is still loved, is still living in the studio and is still stitching up a storm. Both machines have their personalities, each running a little different. Just like my kids!

I look forward to the many years of creating with Miss Maybelle---she is the perfect "accessory" for Posies On Parade!

A HAPPY SCARF

Hello Monday--the the beginning of a brand new week!
I hope you all had a lovely weekend.

I finished a scarf with some of the yarn I picked up from Purl Soho. I am really happy with how it turned out. I never have a pattern I go by--I just start crocheting. The entire scarf is done in a double crochet with thick bright raspberry ruffly ends and chunky flowers.

It is a happy scarf- a splash of color, to brighten the dreariest of winter days .

SOMETHING NEW IN THE SHOP

Hello everyone. Happy Monday!
I have a quick shop update to share with you. I just added this new garland I made last week.
Just in time for Valentine's Day!

I love the neutral, soft colors of the cream, white and pink, which makes it perfect for the whole year.

The letters are made from vintage materials and I have added bits of vintage lace, trim, mother of pearl buttons, a couple trinkets and random stitches.

GOODIES

Happy Wednesday to everyone.
To our surprise we woke up to a snow storm and the kids are home. No school!!! So we plan on a cozy day at home making cookies, reading , watching a movie, and for me, a day of crocheting.

Before I serve up hot chocolate, I wanted to share with you, the goodies I found on our recent trip to NYC. David and I did a "couples" trip with my sweet friend and her husband.
We spent the weekend exploring SoHo. I loved everything about it and can't wait to go back. My most favorite place, besides all the food stops, was Purl Soho. It is definitely a Kelli store. It's full of beautiful fabrics, yummy yarns, stitching supplies, felts and so much more. If you are ever visit NYC you'll have to check it out.

Just look at that tray of goodness. Isn't it delicious? I have scarves planned and lots of stitching to do with my new threads.
I love the yarn you see in the photo below. I found it when we stopped in for a second time, just before it was time to catch the train home. It is thick and full of little bits of sparkel, threads and tiny flowers.

I love it! I think it will become a pillow! I can't wait to dig into that!

HAPPY SUNDAY

I hope you are all enjoying your weekend. It is very chilly here Maryland and I'm enjoying my Sunday by hanging out next to the warm fireplace.
We had the pleasure of enjoying a late breakfast of homemade croissants fresh out of the oven.
Made by no other than my better half!

David has had a love for making bread for a couple years now. I love the smell of fresh bread baking in the oven. It has been a learning experience for David and not all bread has turned out. But of course, the baker is always his worst critic. He is a happy guy when he can serve up hot fresh bread with dinner.

I love to watch him in the kitchen--he looks happy and he truly enjoys the whole process from the leavening to the kneading to the rising. But the best part is watching that perfect loaf come out of the oven and knowing that his own hands created it.

I found this book at Williams & Sonoma and knew it would be the perfect Christmas gift for David. It is a beautiful book with gorgeous photos and step by step instructions to bake bread just like Tartine.

Since Christmas this is just one example of the many loaves he has baked.

A girl can get use to this!

I'm expecting ooey gooey cinnamon raisin bread for my birthday.

Can't wait. My mouth is watering already.

Hello Friends. Can you believe it is 2011? Time does fly. I'm hoping the first month of the new year has been a good one for all of you. There is just a couple of weeks left in January and its soon time to think about Valentine's Day. Love, hearts, and chocolate!

I'm looking forward to a fulfilling, creative year ahead. January has been quite busy with friends and family and haven't had much time to work in the studio. I'm definitely not complaining though. I love spending time with the kids, on warm, cozy afternoons hiding from the winter cold, soaking in every moment spent with my mom, enjoying lunch for two with the love of my life, and a fantastic trip NYC with amazing friends.

I'm not one for New Year resolutions, although I do have certain goals and desires I would like to see done in 2011. There is a running list in my head of all the things I want to do, but will not bore you with that list.
My biggest wish though, is to share with you, each idea and project I manage to accomplish, throughout the year.

I'm anxious to get back in my studio and start creating again. I woke up the other morning with many ideas floating in my head. This happens to me quite often. I either go to bed dreaming of fresh creative ideas or awake in the morning-- my brain swarming with new ideas to stitch. There are many sketchbooks floating around the house, but of course, I always forget to keep one by my bed.
Just the other morning, I awoke with thoughts of new garlands and I jumped out of bed and quickly sketched my visions before they were lost with the many other ideas that have plummeted into the depths of the black whole in my brain.

Now, I'm itching to sneak some time in the studio downstairs---ready to see my visions come to life.

Hope you all had a lovely Christmas spent with the ones you love most.

My days are being spent in, staying cosy in my new pj's and slippers, reading with a cup of tea, playing games with the kids and reading some more.

I will be returning after the first of the year, but the shop remains open and I have decided to leave everything on sale. It is my plan to clear alot of the things out that I have made this past year, to make room for new creations. I always have so many ideas floating in my head. I'm looking forward to 2011 and keeping my shop full with new goodies to share with you.

It has been awhile....

I hope all of you had a beautiful Thanksgiving and are enjoying this glorious time of the year, and remembering to slow down from the hustle and bustle to enjoy the small wonders this season brings.
I am trying really hard not to stress over all the things I think I need to do.
I'm enjoying my family and doing the little things together that matter. Such as, sitting down around the fire with a peppermint ice cream sundae topped with hot fudge, watching Polar Express.
With any luck, they will remember those little things and those little things will turn into BIG memories.

I have worked on a couple projects. I finished my advent calendar, (I will have photos soon) and made new stockings for everyone out of an old quilt with holes I have had for years.
The trees are up, the house is decorated (except for fresh greens--Its been so cold and windy I haven't wanted to go outside).
On the other hand, my shopping is NOT done. I'm sitting hear telling myself I'm not in panic mode......yet!

Now, on to some shop news.
I honestly have to apologize for neglecting my shop. I love my little shop and I love making the things for my shop. I have not been keeping up with everything like I intended. I'm not sure what happened---life with three kids keeps me on my toes--and I love it!
I regret that I don't have any new things for this winter season to add. For that, I am sorry.
I had great intentions and many an idea floating in my head. I guess they will have to float there a little longer and wait until next year.
In the meantime, I am excited to share festive news! It is my little gift to you, for stopping by and visiting me. Thank you, I truly appreciate every single one of you.

Hello everyone, I haven't been a very good blogger lately and for that, I'm truly sorry.
I do have good reasons though. I've been busy busy busy, making these cute little egg cosies for our Thanksgiving morning breakfast while we are...

here. (can't wait!)

I also have been working on this little project. An Advent calendar which of course needs to be done by the first of December. I'm finished with number 13. Only 12 more to go!

Sitting on my desk, is this little project. I cannot wait to start this beautiful necklace from here.

In my living room I have this wooden carrier full of yarn so I can crochet while I watch TV.

If I'm not doing something with my hands at night, when I curl up on the couch, I will fall asleep immediately. (even if it is only 8:30pm)

Along side the yarn, you will see a glimpse of a couple wool hats I have made for myself. Sorry to say, I am not brave enough to actually model them on my head for you to see.

In the studio, these little Petunias are waiting to be finished and added to the shop for the holidays.

I'm also experimenting with the idea of adding houses to the shop, similar to these.

They are my first attempt. I think I have some work to do. Lots of ideas floating around in my head.

And one last little tidbit before I go...

Have a look at this beauty from 1926!

She has a story all her own, which will have to wait for another time. Besides, she needs a proper introduction, as soon as I name her and get her running smoothly.

But until then, I have many things on my to do list to get ready for our Thanksgiving holiday at the beach!

STUDIO PEEK (PART 2)

Well, as promised, I'm back with part 2 of my studio peek. A whole slue of random shots taken around my favorite place in the entire house.

This is the table where I do most of my creating. If I'm not there, I'm on the floor. I'm not sure why I end up on the floor---I guess it is because I can really spread out and it is always comfortable for me.

The photo above is a detail of some things I keep on a silver tray on my table. All my essentials, white buttons, silver glass glitter, pencils, pens and a pretty cup full of erasers.

Below, is a glimpse of a journal I created in a class with Rebecca Sower while attending Silver Bella.

Here is the silver tray on my table.

Pretty ribbons hanging from hooks above baskets of lace, trims and doilies.

This is my old hutch full of goodies, Petunia Posies waiting for homes and my favorite saying when times are stressfull.

Below is the view I see when I walk down the stairs and turn the corner. It makes me smile every time. The chair you see, needs to be in my studio. It is the one from which I rocked all my babies, that chair has been through alot.

It is now a cozy place to stitch, doodle or look through all my books and magazines for inspiration.

A shelf where I stack all my fabric. I keep all my favorites on top, in site, while the messy stash of fabrics and felted sweaters are hidden behind a curtain below. I love how the pretty colors and textures look layered and stacked.

Another love of mine---vintage hankies. I never seem to walk out of a antique store without at least one or two. I use them for Petunies and Rosies.

My favorite tins rest on my hutch along with three little cupcakes I created.

AUTUMN'S GLORY

This glorious time of the year is, by far, my favorite. The warm vibrant colors, the crisp air, the crunch of a tart apple, cozy sweaters, warm drinks, a hearty soup simmering on the stove and caramels in a ironstone bowl on my kitchen counter.

Yep---whats not to love? For me, Autumn passes by way too quickly. I wish it would slow down so I can enjoy it longer.

I wish for more time...

to take more walks and feel the crunch of the leaves under my feet. To have more fires in our outdoor hearth on the patio to roast more marshmallows. Could I have more time to stand under the trees and have the leaves fall around me? A little longer to hear more laughter as the kids chase each other with arm loads of leaves?

Magic. Pure magic.

Soon, the color will be gone and the hustle and bustle of the holidays will begin.

But, for now, I will relish in the beauty of what every golden day brings to me...

in my garden...

my little corner of the world.

This beautiful Friday morning after the kids went off to school, I meandered down to my studio with my cup of coffee to play a little. I have been in love with this book, by this amazing person for awhile now (thanks Hope for telling me about her!)

Free motion machine embroidery has been one of many things I have been intrigued by for a long time. I had a go with it a few months ago---found it a bit frustrating with my newish Singer. I also have tried it with Miss Bessy Pearl---also a bit frustrating. She wasn't working with me, the threads kept bunching up and snapping. I think it may be a tension thing but who knows? Not me!

Anyhoo--this morning I had the urge to try it again with my Singer (I think it needs a name) and guess what? It actually works with a small bit of patience on my part. The only thing I cannot do (that the book suggests) is use a hoop--so I make do without, and it works okay. I definitely need ALOT more practice but I found it to be very fun and liberating! It's like drawing. Instead of a pencil you are using a needle and thread. Poppy points out in the book that it is okay to have imperfections and wobbly lines-- it gives your work charm, originality and authenticity.

I think I do have to agree.

Well, this is definitely a self portrait of me! Imperfect, and wobbly lines! But it is who I am, and I coming to grips with that. Goodness, it only has taken 40 years!

I am who I am!

So go ahead---embrace who you are---imperfections and all!!

STUDIO PEEK (PART 1)

I have been wanting to share peeks of my studio with all of you for the longest time. I have been putting it off. I admit it, I'm a procrastinator. It's not because I haven't wanted to share, it's just that it seems like my studio is always kinda messy. This past weekend I did a little rearranging of furniture and a little sprucing up. I love changing things up here and there, every once and awhile. Do you like to do that too? I think change is good. It lets you see your things in a whole new light. I moved a bed down to my studio from a spare bedroom. I think it gives my space a cozy feel. I still need to add lots of pillows, to give it that day bed feel. It will be a great place to curl up with glossies, do a little stitching or even take a nap.
The moving of the bed, resulted in me having to move other pieces as well. I had to relocate my desk and inspiration board.

These two photos are close ups of some of my favorite things on my board.
Pictures of family and friends, buttons, inspiring rooms, and fun little trinkets. Anything that is special to me or I find inspires my imagination, ends up on my board.

I'm thinking a REALLY over sized inspiration board with a beautiful old frame would be quite nice some day.

MORNING COFFEE

There is something reassuring and comforting about a cup of coffee (or 2--or 3) in the morning.
You never know, at my house, what the morning will bring, a grumpy tween who didn't get enough sleep, a husband unexpectantly called into work, or a little guy running late for the bus because he doddled through his bowl of honey nut cheerios for too long.
But the one thing that is always there, is my cup of coffee. Yes, cups themselves vary, (I have many favorites) but the aroma and that first heavenly sip makes everything feel alright, even just for the moment. This is especially true when the love of my life is home and we share one together. It is the the one constant thing in the morning that I can count on---day in and day out.
So, here's to you, my cup of joy, thanks for always being there.

Make room for French macarons!

While on holiday in California, we had the opportunity to stop at Paulette, a wonderful little bakery dedicated to French macarons. That's all they bake--just macarons!
I have always wanted to try these beautiful, petite confections. And I have to say, walking into the shop was like walking into a candy store for a little kid.

The gorgeous colors of the macarons all in a row, side by side, just made me grin from ear to ear.

For me, It was very hard to choose what flavors to bring home to my family. Flavors such as chocolate, pistachio, coconut, caramel, rasberry, passion fruit, vanilla, earl grey, rose, violet...

Oh my!!! The stress of it all! How does an indecisive girl decide???

She doesn't.

She brings home one of each. And multiples of favorite flavors!

Just look at all of them lined up in the box. And they taste as beautiful as they look. They have a subtle crunch with the first bite, but then, they have a delicateness in both texture and flavor. Not too sweet---just lovely!

Looking forward to my next French macaron experience.

BACK TO WORK

Well, I wouldn't exactly call it work. I love what I get to do, so technically I can't really call it work.
That being said, I have been itching to get back to what I do---making things for Posies On Parade!
The kids went back to school on Wednesday. The girls started middle school and they are handling it so much better than their mom! I'm still in denial that this is happening already. It seems like just yesterday they were starting kindergarten. Oh goodness gracious! Sigh...

Anywhoo... the summer was a good one, although it was too hot and our grass turned gray, the time spent with the kids flew by way too quickly. I do have to admit though, that I have missed working in my studio on a regular basis. Soooo, it's time to focus again on my poor neglected little shop. I have lots of new ideas and many things to add in the coming weeks.
So exciting!!!!!
The photos are a glimpse of my work table. This is what it usually looks like. I try really hard to keep it picked up and organized. But, when I'm working on a couple different things at once, my brain works faster than my hands and I don't have time to put things where they belong. So, whatever I'm working with at the time, is left on the table until I run out of room. Or....it ends up on the floor, especially all the fabric scraps and all those little threads! Does anyone else do that too?

I'm excited to get back into the swing of things. I hope you come along on my journey.

BEAUTY IN CALIFORNIA

I wanted to share with you some of the beauty we were able to experience while on holiday in California.

Bountiful had amazing window displays.

On our walk to Shabby Chic, Cammy spied a great little coffee place where we all experience our first french macaron and where I had the best cappucino ever! And the almond croissant---YUM!!

Shabby chic was everything I imagined it would be!

I"m in love will all the soft pastel colors.

French General was the highlight of the trip. It was beyond amazing---in fact---I think I could live in that little shop.

We spent many hours here just taking it all in.

Wish we could have stayed longer.

Our holiday was one we will cherish forever. The three of us created a bond that will last a lifetime.

Now---where will we go next year, girls?

I remember when these two beautiful girls could barely reach for that first big step of the bus, on their first day of kindergarten. Now, they are much TALLER, and just finished 5th grade with a special little ceremony at school.
Next stop, middle school. An exciting time for them--scary time for mom.
I'm so proud of both of my girls--they are growing into beautiful people, inside and out.

So...Summer begins!! Reading, fun at the beach, movies, and cookouts! I know I am going to relish in every moment, because in just a few short weeks, before I know it, my girls will move on to the next chapter in their lives! (oh goodness---am I ready for this?)

I love you both so very much---happy day!

Well, last week in between school field trips, David's birthday, house cleaning and creating posie pockets I managed to finish my spring sampler. YAY!!!! Have I told you how much I really REALLY enjoy stitching! It makes me happy! And the ability to just add bits and bobs so freely and randomly is so so gratifying to my soul.

Seeing it, and all it's little imperfections, all my favorite little scraps and buttons, makes me a happy girl.

We have many blue birds come and visit our yard (which I love!) So of course, this little mama bird had to find a home here.

Gotta love pink pearls, they make great centers for flowers!

I embroidered the word frolic with a lighter pink and it didn't stand out on the fabric very well, so I went back around it with a darker pink to make it pop a little more. Just one of those learning experiences!

I also love how Teresa incorporated a fabric charm in her spring sampler, so I thought I would have a go at my own version of one with my initial.

It was great to playing around, stitching flowers with some of my favorite vintage buttons.

I even added a basket of posies!

A SWEET GIFT

A few days ago this certain little girl came into the kitchen. She had returned from a walk around the yard. It was one of those beautiful, perfect spring days when the air smells of fresh mowed grass and there was a sweetness in the air.
In her hand was this beautiful little bouquet of flowers she had pick for me. "These are for you Mommy"
It is those little things that make my world so happy. Thank you Abby!

A LOVELY DAY

About a week ago we decided to spend a spring break day with the kids in D.C. to take in the beauty of the cherry trees in all their glory. We couldn't have picked a more perfect day. The weather, the blooms and the company were a glorious combination.

I love the contrast of the tree trunks and the white blooms.

Just look at those three faces! LOVE!

The sky was so brilliant blue and the way the blossoms glistened in the sunlight was just spectacular.

After we enjoyed the blossoms we trekked over to this place for a most scrumptious burger and root beer floats. YUM!

By the end of the day we all felt alittle like this.....

but it was all well worth it.

We'll be back again next Spring for sure.

SPRING SAMPLER

I sat down this morning to work on my spring sampler, between loads of laundry. A few weeks ago, I signed up for Teresa McFayden's freestyle embroidery e-zine. For a while now, I have been working on a couple of samplers. Stitching on one and then stitching on the other--kinda going back and forth, depending on my mood. Needless to say, both are not finished. But, this particular sampler, I have been working on exclusively, since I signed up for the class. I am enjoying it very much.

Anyway---As I was laying it all out on the floor, my little furry buddy, Chester strolled over for a visit. He was such a happy kitty and purring so loudly. He decided to just plop himself down on top of my stitching, thinking it looked like a cozy spot. Or---maybe he was thinking, "No, you aren't working on this, you are going to pet and love me instead." Well, he was right. I did not work on my sampler, I sat and loved my Chester cat instead!

But, I do have some photos of my work in progress to share with you.

I'm adding fun little bits and pieces as I go along. I am using a few of the elements that were included with the e-zine, but mostly I'm doing my own thing.

Here is a fun little vignette using basic stitches, such as the back stitch, running stitch and the satin stitch. I have included beads, pearls, a velvet flower and scraps of fabric and lace. a garden of posies---Kelli style!

I love using scraps of fabric to stitch on before I add it to the base piece. It adds texture. Here, I used alot of french knots, the lazy daisy stitch and the word bloom was done with the back stitch.

I try to find time on most days to do a little something on my sampler. Somedays, I have time to do more involved things and some days just a few stitches here and there. I find it very relaxing and very fulfilling. Just a little creative something to make me happy.

CATH KIDSTON PROJECTS

I have been wanting to do a couple projects for a really long time. I kept putting it off. I'm not sure why, really, they were super easy, once I did them. But, this weekend seemed to be the perfect time to just do it, since David was called into work and it has been so gloomy and rainy.
A while back my mom and dad went to London and surprised me with a goodie bag from Cath Kidston. It was full of fun fabric and the most beautiful oilcloth. I have known what I wanted to do with it all ever since they gave it to me--a pillow for my studio and a tote made from the oilcloth. I have made pillows before, but I have never made a slipcover for one. Come to find out, it is really easy peasy and it only took me less than a half an hour. (What took me so long to do it?)

I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

The second project was the tote. I have never sewn one before and I didn't have a pattern to go by. But, I do have to say, this one is very basic and simple and anyone can do it! I definitely see my little mistakes but, once again, I'm happy with how it turned out and I'm so glad I finally finished it.
Now, the next time I go to the bookstore, I'll have a stylish tote to carry my new books and "glossies" home.

MY REMAINS OF THE DAY JOURNAL

Quite a few weeks ago I signed up for Mary Ann Moss' Remains of the Day on-line journaling class. I have been wanting to share my cover with you, but have been waiting to find a chance to sew in a pocket that I meant to do while I was working on the cover but forgot to add. A couple of nights ago, I stole a few minutes and hand stitched the pocket in.
So here it is.

I am very glad that I signed up, It has been so fun working on my cover and the few pages I have finished and I have learned quite a bit. The problem is for me, has been, finding the time to work on my inside pages.
I did enjoy gathering all the different scraps of vintage fabric for the cover and sewing it together with bits of seam binding and pom pom trim. The tie is a length of velvet ribbon wrapped around an old clip earring.

This is the inside cover with my crooked little pocket! But I guess it just adds to the imperfect charm. I don't mind it so much.

This is the first of my inside pages. I used a card from Papaya , with paper lace, a scrap of old wallpaper and a tag that Hope made for my Christmas present.

Soon, when I finish my inside pages, I will share those with you too!

SPRING IS NEAR

MEET MISS BESSY PEARL

I would like to introduce you to my new (old) friend! Her name is Miss Bessy Pearl. Isn't she beautiful?

Look at that amazing shade of perfect vintage pink. You just have to love a PINK sewing machine!

The poor old girl was found yesterday while digging for treasure with my friend Cammy at my local antique store. She was just sitting there, all alone with her case, waiting for someone like me to come along and take her home. Luckily, her former owner came walking in as we were looking her over, so I could ask her if she worked properly. We plugged her in, and she ran so smooth and so quiet. Everything else looked as though it was in good working order. All she needed was a little pampering and a good cleaning.

I couldn't get her out of my head as Cammy and I continued our hunt. I thought of her for the rest of the afternoon, just waiting there, longing for a home to continue to create beautiful things, to feel the fabric, the lace, the ribbons!

I had to meet my kids at the bus--- I had to do a little research on the computer to see if I could get a manual and after a little bit of thought--- we hopped in the car and ran in the store, just in time before they closed!

In a matter of minutes, Miss Bessy Pearl was all mine!

She looks right at home in my studio (her new home). Welcome home Miss Bessy Pearl!

We will live happily ever after.....

And we are both ready to sew something fun!

WINTER WONDERLAND CUPCAKES

Look what we found out in the forest the other day as we were out for a stroll!! Deer in the forest!! Alot of deer!

Just kidding! I baked these extra chocolaty cupcakes in honor of all the snow we have been getting. All that snow is beginning to melt in the 40 degree temperatures. I'm glad and really ready for Spring. I'm ready to see the daffodils show off there bright sunny colors and I'm ready to plant happy pansies in pots on my patio. I'm ready to feel the warm sun on my face.
But in the meantime, we'll enjoy these wintry delights!

A BIRTHDAY, LOTS OF SNOW AND MY STUDIO

My goodness, alot has happened in the last week and a half. I celebrated my 40th birthday (still trying to get used to that number!). David always makes my birthday so special, because we do a little something all week. We all went to dinner one night and he had roses waiting at the table for me. One morning, we went to breakfast together and on my birthday he took me to lunch and to the bookstore! It was a great week. Thank you David, for everything you do for me every day---I think I'm pretty lucky to have you!
I also was able to spend an afternoon with my good friends Cammy and Hope. Cammy made me this beautiful, delicious coconut cake. She knew coconut cake is a favorite of mine. It had sooo many to die for layers of coconut goodness! I savored every bite and I'm so sad it is all gone!
Hope gave me this sweet little notebook and two of my favorite colored copic markers. The cover of the notebook is made of very thin wood. So pretty. Hope also knew I have been wanting scalloped scissors and she was so sweet to find a pair for me! I love them so much! Cammy gave me the most beautiful silver glass glitter garland which I couldn't wait to hang in my studio. You'll see it in the photos below. I love my gifts so much girls, thank you, and thank you for the great day. But mostly, thank you for being my friends, which is the best gift of all.We have had two back to back, major snow storms here and at last count, 40+ inches have fallen. The kids have been home all week and we have stayed cozy playing games, watching movies, reading and drinking hot chocolate. I also have been busy puttering in my studio, rearranging furniture. David helped haul a desk downstairs from our bedroom so I would have a place to sit and work on my computer because usually my big work table is covered in projects. It was all spurred on by me needing special place to hang the garland from Cammy. I also wanted a place to hang an inspiration board.

So here is the finished product!

I'm very happy with how everything turned out. I especially love how the garland looks above my board.

The desk was my Grandma's and I truly love having it to sit at. But, I couldn't just let it be as it was, I had to make it look a little more like Kelli. So this morning while the kids were outside sledding and David was digging us out, I cut pieces of pretty wallpaper that Cammy had given me a while back, to fit on the front of each drawer. I'm really happy with how it turned out.

Now, it's time to think about Spring items to add to the shop.

I better get busy because I have many ideas floating around in my brain.

Last week I was catching up on Kaari Meng's blog and she was having a little giveaway of mourning buttons. She wrote about her wonderful collection of mourning paraphernalia. It is quite interesting, you should go check it out. So, I entered the giveaway and guess what? Little ole me was one of two winners! I never win anything! This was so exciting, especially after I had the privilege of meeting Kaari at Silver Bella.
A few days later, this great little package arrived in the mailbox! What a treat amongst the bills and junk mail.

COLOR JOURNEY

I know it has been awhile since I have posted. I guess time is passing by too quickly.

It has been quite busy here since Christmas. We celebrated two birthdays and my mom came from Colorado for a visit. We had a great time!

Yesterday, the kids had a half day of school so we made the trek down to the Baltimore National Aquarium. We all love visiting it there, especially Chloe---she is such an animal lover.

I know the photos aren't my usual style, but I just had to share because I was having such a grand time taking pictures of these beautiful creatures.

There is a whole other world in the oceans that I find very fascinating.

The vast range of colors and color combinations are so beautiful. I found it so inspiring.

A MERRY KIND OF A DAY

Monday I met up with Cammy and Hope for lunch for a little Christmas cheer. It was one of those days I will cherish for a long long time. We met for coffee and then it was off to lunch at The Tasting Room where we exchanged gifts, had some delicious food and leisurely shared each other's company.
Hope's gift to me is simple amazing! A beautiful mug from Anthropologie filled with fun goodies that are so Me. She knows I have a thing for buttons and inside the mug was a beautiful pouch full of old buttons from French General. Also a small box of beads were tucked inside. (Notice the vintage ladybugs beads?)
Hope also made address labels which I absolutely love.

Cammy's gift to me is so wonderful as well--it makes me giddy every time I look at it.
She made this oh so beautiful, amazing stocking from a felted wool sweater and lace with vintage baubles and millinery. I absolutely love the colors--- it has Kelli written all over it!

Inside the stocking I found all of these over the top goodies! Things that make a girl like me happy!

My gifts to Cammy and Hope were scarves that I crocheted in colors they love. I had so much fun working on them. I hope the scarves keep them warm for years to come!

I have all my gifts spread out on the table, just so I can look at them every time I walk by. I love them so much, but most of all, and what really matters, are the wonderful women from which they came.

Thank you Cammy and Hope. Thank you for your gifts, and for your friendship.

FESTIVE FRONT DOOR

I just wanted to share with you what I did this year to decorate my front door for the season.

I wanted something different than a wreath this year so I unearthed my old skates from the basement. Which by the way, has moved to many places throughout my life since I have had them as a kid. I remember skating on frozen ponds in the cold cold winters of Wisconsin. my brothers and I would clear off the snow with snow shovels and then we would skate until our toes were numb and our ankles soar. They would play hockey while I would pretend I could skate like Dorothy Hamill.
Sigh----I just love remembering happy times, don't you?
Anyway, I think my skates look pretty darn good on my aqua door nestled in a bed of greens.
Now, every time I come home, I see my skates and I smile!
(I'm not sure what I'll do if I get the urge to skate this winter:)

As you open the front door and step inside my entry you will find my latest creative endeavor. Last week I took a break from making Posie Pockets for a couple hours and whipped up this wreath that I have been wanting to do for a while. I saw a photo in the Pottery Barn catalogue as well as a couple photos in a past Somerset Life publication. I was truly inspired. What a great use of beautiful aged pages from an old book.
I made a ring out of cardboard, then, simply rolled pages and glued them onto the base with hot glue. I did that until it was full to my liking. I then added all the fun little details such as, small doilies, buttons, sheet music, seam binding, a sparkly bauble, vintage French post cards and Christmas cards. Voila! Door---decorated---done!

I have other decorations to share in the next week---everything is done! (except for the new stockings I want to stitch)

A PERFECT START TO THE SEASON

Friday we kicked off the holiday season by making the trek to our local Christmas tree farm to pick the two perfect trees for our home. It was a cold and blustery day!

Everyone was excited for the hunt! Cart and saw in hand!

I"M HOME

I'm home with many wonderful memories to last a lifetime. It was a whirlwind of fun and I do have to say I think Silver Bella 2009, topped last year. Everything was amazing, from the new friends that we met to the most spectacular classes that we attended.

Look at us three (Hope and Cammy) in our aprons. I think we look pretty darn cute! We had so much fun shopping and browsing all the wonderful goodies during vendor night. It was a sea of many beautiful aprons, but I was so busy shopping, I didn't take many pictures of that night.
It was what I imagined, a room full of women, all in aprons---it was a sight to see.

It was so wonderful to spend time with Jen again and meet up with Melissa too. We laughed so hard! Miss you guys already!

I took Jennifer Murphy's Bundle up Birdie class, and loved it so much. She is an amazing, talented person and a great instructor. Now, I'm ready to make a blue bird.

Rebecca Sower's Hodge Podge Journal class was tops on my list of favorites. She is a truly inspirational, wonderful person and I REALLY love her work. I'm a fan for life!

Oh, and the jewelry classes with Kaari Meng! I'm not sure how to explain how I feel about those.

It was an honor and a privilege to meet her. Jewelry making has always been a little intimidating to me, but she instantly put me at ease. Loved loved loved those two classes. We made a necklace in the first class and then had the opportunity to pick up her bracelet class as well, and boy, we are so glad we did. I can't wait to dig into my kits I purchased and make some more. Fun fun fun!

I do have two more project to share with you, but they are not quite finished. As soon as they are, I promise to show you.

It's hard for me to find the words to describe how I truly feel about our time in Omaha. It was such a special time to share with very special people who "get it."

BOUND FOR SILVER BELLA

APRON LOVE

It has been one big whirlwind around here with preparations for Silver Bella, which by the way, is next week. Yikes! So excited!

One of the best parts so far, I have to say, has been the making of our aprons. Usually there is a theme during vendor night and this years theme is 100 aprons. YAY! Can you picture a room full of 185+ women in glorious aprons? Can't wait!

Dorothy Mae is wearing mine which is finally finished and ready to be packed carefully in my suitcase.

I had so much fun working on it, especially the day Hope and I met up and spent the day at Cammy's to all work on them together.
(Wait until you see theirs---beautiful)

I stitched snippets of fabric, ribbon, and felt. Added a pink velvet pocket, pom pom trim, buttons and lace. I used some lace that I have saved from my Nanny, a beautiful yellow button my mom brought back for me from England, and a big rhinestone button I found the day we all went flea marketing. All of us (Cammy, Hope, Gabrielle) picked one out together specifically for our aprons. We also pick one out for Jen, because she wasn't with us. Can't wait to see yours, Jen!

So, my apron is full of things that make me happy , and the fact that I was able to spend a day with two amazing people, working on them together, makes it even more special.

A memory to cherish forever!

MY FAVORITE SEASON

Thought I would share some of my pumpkins around the house. I keep meaning to get outside and take some Autumn photos, but every time I have some time, it is a gloomy rainy day.
Although today it is a gorgeous day, so I will be sharing outside photos later.

I have to start out this fine Monday morning by thanking all who have left such sweet comments and all who have visited my shop. This has been quite a journey so far, and as long as I have this desire to create, and what I make, makes people smile, I will be on this journey for awhile.

Okay--back to the pumpkins. The one in the photo above was a find one day while I was out with Abby. How can you pass up a PINK pumpkin? Love it (and so does a certain little girl who loves pink)

This beauty is sitting in an old iron stone wash basin on my coffee table.

These two sit on my favorite table in the entryway of my house. I'm a sucker for white pumpkins and every shade in between!

All the orange pumpkins are outside. We picked those up yesterday with the kids. We usually get to the pumpkin patch to pick our own, but this year we were short on time. We picked up a bushel of apples and our pumpkins from our favorite farmers market yesterday. And I took a few photos of the kids which I will share later this week.

In the mean time, I'm off to work downstairs in my studio. I have an order to pack, Silver Bella swaps, an apron to work on and posie pockets to create!

Good thing I'll be busy this week, my girls left this morning for outdoor school. They will be gone until Thursday! Doesn't that seem like such a long time? I miss them already!(sigh)

I have a new and final (no more postponing, I pinkie swear) opening day for Posies on Parade!
October 19th, 11:00am eastern time.

I'm frantically taking pictures of all the things I have made and uploading them. It is very time consuming but I am enjoying the process very much.

I am still hoping to have more time to make more things, I have tons of ideas in my head. If they aren't done for opening day, then they will be added soon there after.

This has been a long time coming. I have always had a dream to do something like this, to be able to make things and share them with whoever falls in love with them.
I have had a lot of encouragement along the way to coax me out of my shell. David is my number one supporter, the one always by my side who has pushed me along through every step. My kids are always telling me "I can do it!" Cammy, and all her sweet words and listening to all my doubts, and Hope, where would I be without all her amazing ability to design my web page and logo, and for all her advice?
My parents have always encouraged me to reach for my dreams and not be afraid.
Each and everyone of them inspire me everyday and I love them!

So this is it! The big day is approaching quickly, and I must go and get back to work!
The 19th will be here before I know it!

A GOOD DAY

I know I said I would be taking a break for a couple of weeks, but, I couldn't let such a special day go by without sharing.
Sunday, my little Abigail turned 10. I can hardly believe how fast she is growing up. (sigh)

We started the day going out for breakfast and then Abby wanted to spend the day walking around historic Ellicott City. But, before that, we took a little detour to the mall (courtesy of Dad) to get those two girls their ears pierced. (see their little ears!) They had no idea until we were driving there! Abby was nervous at first, Chloe was not, and both were very excited. Now they can't wait to pick out their first pair of earrings.
Both Chloe and Abby have been asking for awhile to get their ears pierced, so we figured we couldn't have picked a better day!

I think it is so great that Abby still loves American Girl! Rebecca is the new friend to add to her collection.

Abby asked for a tea party with cupcakes. Our tea was a glorious sweet strawberry milk which was a perfect compliment to the chocolate cupcakes. (aqua cream cheese frosting with pink polka dots was a must)

She was so excited when she opened her gift from Chloe! Look at that smile!

Abby, I hope you had a great birthday and that all your wishes you wished for come true!

My Mom and Dad just left for home in Colorado after visiting here for a week. I cherished every minute of my time with them and it was so sad to see them leave. I miss you both already and look forward to the next time.

Mom, thank you for making me the beautiful wreath, it is perfect on the front door.

I will be taking a little break from blogging for a couple weeks. Yesterday, we received the very sad news that David's mom suddenly passed away. My heart aches for David, his dad and his sisters. We will be spending the rest of the week in Colorado to be with family and my main priority is helping David through this hard time, and giving my kids extra hugs.

I have been thinking that I may need to postpone the opening of Posies on Parade. Not for too long. I think mid October will be a better time.

I'll be back soon, my friends.

AN EVENING TO REMEMBER

A few weeks ago, before school started, we took the kids to Georgetown for a night of fun.
It was all spurred on when Cammy told me about her favorite place to get cupcakes. So we hopped in the car, and ventured there to try something new.
I'm embarrassed to say, we have lived here five years and have not been to Georgetown. Oh sure, David and I got lost one day and ended up driving there, by chance, on a school day, trying to do some Christmas shopping at the mall! But, I don't think that counts.
Anyway, we found this AMAZING pizza place where everyone decided to be silly. Of course, it seems like every time I take a picture of Jacob, he is eating. He is a growing boy, who sure loves his good eats. Can't you tell he is enjoying that mouthful?

Abby and her Daddy--don't they look alike! Love it!!

Who are these two goofs, and what was in that pizza that caused this? They definitely were having way too much fun! I think they knew what was about to happen next.

With full tummy's (but not too full--not when you know the treats in store next), we walked up the street. Which by the way, was full of glorious shopping. We just didn't have time, we had to get to the cupcakes before they closed their doors for the night!

We found the quaint little shop, with the line to get in, trailing out the door! When it was our turn to order, we couldn't decide which to get, so of course we HAD to try them all! Just had too! It was a must! How do you know what to get next time, unless you do, right?

Oh man, we were not disappointed! AMAZING!!

How perfect do they look in the box---all the colors and textures. I can't decide which I like best. It's a toss up between the chocolate with ganache or the coconut. Coconut, definitley! Oh wait maybe the vanilla with chocolate frosing! See what I mean?

Well, luckily we'll be going back soon---TWICE! Next week, when my parents come to visit and at the end of the month, for Abby's birthday! How about that? One can't have too many cupcakes! It should be a rule!

All in all, it was a very fun night, that all of us will remember for a while! Can't wait to go again! Next time we'll save some time for shopping--I spied a Paper Source, which I have never been in before!

COLOR INSPIRATION

I found these amazing treasures the other day when I went to the antique store.

Aren't the colors glorious? I am very inspired by all of these hues lately.

I'm a lover of all colors but these are my favorites.

You can't have too many hankies. Well, I can't anyway.

Can't have too many buttons either. Looking forward to using these beauties soon.

Love the softness and texture of the hankies and lace. Oh, and the scalloped edges---make my heart go pitter patter!

SOMETHING IS HAPPENING

MONDAY'S CREATIVE "MESS"

Cammy and Hope came over on Monday to do a little playing in my studio. We decided it would be fun to make wands. As you can see we made a mess, but I personally think it is a pretty mess.... a wonderful mess when you are creating something beautiful with good friends.

I was anxious to see how each wand turned out---how each person's personality and unique style came through. It's interesting, with a basic plan of making something, you can see everyones own take on the project.

Cammy's wand is beautiful---love her colors and use of an old piece of glorious wallpaper. Look at that vintage pompom trim---gotta love that!

Hope's is all about her up and coming, faster than she realizes wedding! Love her colors, use of old paper and that vintage square jewel!

.....And mine.

I used some wire ribbon I have had for years for the flower. It's funny how it may take that long to use a small bit of lace, ribbon or scrap of material that you have been saving---saving for the right project. It just goes to show---never throw those bits and scraps out!

It was an amazing day girls, as always! Thanks for making a "mess" with me!

And once again the time spent together passed by way to quickly, didn't it?

FRESH FROM THE STUDIO

I'm getting ready for opening day of Posies On Parade, which, by the way, is October 1st. It will be here before I know it, because in my world, time flies by faster than I can keep up. I'm sure you all can relate.
Anyway, I have been busy as a bee whipping up someone new in my studio. I think, to date, she is my favorite!
I used an old linen napkin for her skirt as well as a beautiful delicate pink hankie. Layered over those is a soft, vintage, pink piece of lace. Mother of pearl buttons, vintage ribbons, and rhinestone buttons were a must! Oh, and her wings---old patterns of course.

To top her hand painted face, is an old thimble---perfect fit for a fairy's head! She's all set for a Fairy's Ball, don't you think?

But wait!! Something is missing! She needs a name of course! Any suggestions--just drop me a comment!

She'll be waiting on my shelf, in my studio for someone to take her home come the first of October. Waiting patiently-----

So, in the mean time, I'm off to make her a new friend. Can't wait to see what she'll be wearing!

A BAKING DAY FOR THE GIRLS

A couple weeks ago Jacob lit a fire under Chloe by telling her she didn't know how to cook! (typical brother thing to do, right?) Well, that is all it took for Chloe to take on the challenge to prove him wrong!

So, I told her she could bake banana bread all by herself with no help from me! I was in the kitchen "just in case" but she did everything on her own! She measured, mashed, folded, prepped the pan and tossed it in the oven, ALL BY HERSELF! And guess what? Chloe's banana bread turned out better than any I have made, and I have made many a banana bread! It was light, moist and oh so yummy!

Then---Miss Abby spied Chloe in the kitchen and caught the baking bug, and decided to bake her OWN cupcakes (of course)! And again, there I was, hanging out in the kitchen, but no need for help from me, she had it ALL handled, ALL by herself! And let me tell you----those vanilla cupcakes with pink butter cream frosting were quite delicious! Decadent, really!

So---is this a sign that my girls are growing up? (insert sigh) They are growing more independent by the day! Can a Mom be more proud? I hope they always have a love for baking----so far so good! I remember baking in the kitchen with my mom and baking all on my own. I have to thank you Mom, for giving me those special memories so I can share the same things with my girls.

I still look forward to baking with my Mom in the kitchen. Every year at Christmas time, my mom comes to visit, and the four of us bake my Nana's gingersnap cookies! Yum, can't wait!

To me, there is nothing like whipping up a batch of cookies, quick bread, or cake! Although, I'm not sure if I will be making the banana bread anymore, I think Chloe has a new job!
And Abby, you know me, I'm always up for a cupcake!

TREASURES AND A PEEK

A couple weeks ago, I piled the kids in the car and we trekked to the antique stores to do a little treasure hunting. The kids actually have a pretty good time when we go. They all have things that they enjoy looking for. Jacob likes old comics, baseball cards and old toys. Chloe likes to look for marbles, anything that gives her a good laugh and she helps me look for the things I'm after. Abby loves old books, porcelain dolls, hankies, and pretty much anything small and beautiful.

Well, on this particular outing, I was on a mission for hankies (I'll explain why in a later post). But of course, I came home with more than that! I'm not complaining, mind you! I found some great bargains! The suitcase is huge and in beautiful shape for only $10! The old glass jar full of seam binding, $12 and the English marmalade jar, $8, just to give a few examples.

When I brought my goodies home and laid it all out on the table, I also found some color inspiration.

Bonus!

I think there are two sides of me. One half is drawn to the soft, muted, aged colors such as in the above photo. I can just picture a fairy in those shades, can't you?

The the other half of me loves bright, saturated colors in all combinations! I love how the blue, orange, and peach look together. What a great idea for a Posie Pocket! I love how colors come together without even planning it----it just happens! Then, my brain gets so full of ideas, I either need to write it all down real fast, or get busy in my studio real fast!

Speaking of studio........

After many weeks of decision making and procrastination, I have moved my studio to a different part of the basement. I've been busy, busy, busy, painting, moving furniture, reorganizing, and decorating.

It is still a work in progress, with a few more things I need to add, and a couple things to hang, but for the most part it is ready for me to create!

I love it so much! I cannot believe I have such a space to call my own. I feel so fortunate! Looking forward to many creative projects and many late nights getting ready for the opening of Posies on Parade!

Thank you David for all your help, and spoiling me so much!! Thank you Chloe, Abby and Jacob for being so patient while I worked! I love you all!

FRIENDS, FLEA MARKETING, FUN

A couple weeks ago I had the privilege of spending a hot summer day with my good friends Cammy and Hope and met up with a new friend, Gabrielle. We all trekked up to Pennsylvania to do a little treasure hunting. By the looks of the back of Cammy's car, I'd say we were pretty successful!

Here is a sampling of the loot I brought home! I'm so excited about everything I found, especially the rhinestone buttons. You should have seen the four of us sifting through hundreds of button cards! We were like kids in a candy shop! We all found a special sparkly button to add to our Silver Bella aprons that we are going to make!

I think the best find of the day, was this box of buttons that Cammy and I split. The sweet lady who was selling them, said it was $1 a bag or $30 for the entire box! How could you not take the WHOLE box for that price? When I brought the box home, I actually counted how many bags we had! A whopping 284! And that was after Gabrielle took some home!

We will have plenty of buttons to play with for a long long time!

All in all, it was a great day made better by great friends---looking forward to the next adventure!

STITCHING LOVE

Ever since Silver Bella last year I have had this new love for stitching. During welcome night, we all participated in a group stitching project. It is hard to put into words what a fabulous feeling I had, as over 150 women all sat together and stitched together. It was a bond that we all share, I think, even to this day.

I have started a small sampler using small bits of vintage lace, ribbon, buttons and trinkets, learning new stitches along the way.

In the seven months since Silver Bella, I am sorry to say I have not worked on my sampler much. Not that I haven't wanted too--I love it when I'm doing it! I suppose I could name off a long list of excuses why I haven't had time, but I won't bore you with that! The point is, that working on my sampler is one of many things on my Summer To Do List.

To my delight, my girls also have decided to join me and start one themselves. Well, I was just beside myself, thinking of the three of us sitting around in our flannel pants, drinking tea and and learning new stitches together. Bonding time with my daughters, can it get any better than that?

So today, while the boys stayed home and cleaned the garage, I took the girls to lunch and went shopping for their supplies. What fun they had picking out all their favorite colors of embroidery floss, and they each chose the same sewing basket, which we'll personalize and make their own. (I don't have a basket yet. I am holding out for a vintage one that speaks to me.)

Now we are all anxious to get started! It will be so fun to see how Chloe's and Abby's samplers will turn out!

I can't wait!! (I think the vacuuming will have to wait for another day!)

TORNADOS, SNOW and WILDLIFE.....

We are back......and what a time we had!!
We had a wonderful time visiting with all of our family. It was so good to see everyone, and spend some quality time together. We had many laughs and made many memories.

We also endured the wrath of nature! We are talking funnel clouds, snow and an assortment of wildlife!
One day, we took Abby to pick up a few things at a bakery and found out we were under a tornado warning! Standing outside the bakery, we spotted at least two funnel clouds over head. David, being the weather buff that he is, was just beside himself watching the clouds churn and swirl. Now, Abby caught the weather bug and was just as excited. Me.....I was happy INSIDE the bakery picking out a cake!

We were able to spend one day exploring the mountains and spied this beautiful elk grazing in a meadow. Such a majestic animal in an equally majestic setting! We also saw a moose, but it was too far away to get a good picture. (I don't think you want to get too close to a moose)
We traveled through Rocky Mountain National Park along Trail Ridge Road. (It is hard to believe such beauty was right in our "back yard" when we lived there.)

As you can see, there is still ALOT of snow and it was quite cold. Very invigorating!! Chloe doesn't look very happy--she would much rather be basking in the hot sun a little closer to sea level!

Abby was soaking up every minute of everything she was seeing and couldn't believe it was snowing---IN JUNE!!!

Jacob was happy with whatever we did, as long as there was food to eat along the way!

Every time I travel that road, it is always awe inspiring. When I am there, I feel like I am on top of the world and all I have to do is reach to the sky and touch the beginning of heaven.

I highly recommend a trip there if you ever get to Colorado!

We ended our stay in Colorado at David's sister's house. They have a family of snakes living in their yard. Of course, Chloe being the wildlife fanatic that she is, thought it would be great fun to catch one! She looked like an old pro---she was able to catch more than one---"Steve Irwin Style", and stayed very calm in the process!

Me.....not so much! David.....even more, not so much! But, not to be out done by a ten year old, we thought "lets face our fear of these slithery beasts!"

Yes, I do have photos to prove this. I'll share those lovely pictures next time!

FRIDAY THOUGHT

I was thinking about my garden this morning and how it makes me feel. Everyone has their own personal thoughts on how their own garden makes them feel inside.
Ours doesn't have a specific style, we didn't follow any rules--we just planted things.
Alot of it was out of necessity, because we moved into new construction, so there wasn't any trees, bushes or even grass.
It also is a work in progress. Things, alot of things need to be done or fixed. I want to add a vegetable garden and more of the flowers I love. Plants need to be relocated, beds need to be filled in, the list goes on.
But, every time I step outside my back door and find my favorite patio chair, I smile. I smile because the birds are there chirping away, the water is flowing gently in our fountain and the bees are busy, buzzing their way to each open rose. It is extra glorious when I find a ladybug on a daisy!

I find peace in my garden. MY garden, where the flowers are mismatched and where the trees are planted too close together---but it is my garden, with my roses, my pansies, my daisies, my little piece of Heaven right outside my back door.
I love it because it is mine.

I hope you all find a little peace and tranquility in your own gardens, whether it is large or small, formal or informal. Even a few containers of your favorite flowers is considered a garden in my book. It doesn't matter if you have one rose or twenty, as long as it brings a little smile to your face!

A SHINING MOMENT

This spring was the first time Chloe signed up for soccer. She is new to the game and all the rules (Mom and Dad as well), so it has been slow going, but fun.
It has been quite something to watch Chloe in her practices and her games, go from not knowing alot to learning SO much!
So, to top the cake with a little frosting, last Saturday Chloe had an away game and just about a minute before the game ended she SCORED HER FIRST GOAL!!!
It was so exciting to see her shine!
I think she even surprised herself. I knew she could do it!!!

We are so PROUD of you Chloe, for sticking to it, to the end and trying something new!

One more game and then who knows......
Will she try it again in the fall or try something else?

It just doesn't matter, as long as she is happy in what she does!

I LOVE IT WHEN A PLAN COMES TOGETHER

I have been busy dying cupcake liners and coffee filters for a day of play with my friends Cammy and Hope. We plan on making garlands inspired by this creative person.

I have them all stacked in my studio and I'm just loving the combination of colors and the texture of the stacks. They look so pretty.

I love all colors, but there is something about these particular shades that just does me in every time.

These beautiful stacks and my weakness for cupcakes are the inspiration for my latest creation.

A crown fit for a Queen.....or Countess for that matter.

I used decorative paper, pages from an old cookbook, German glass glitter, and vintage trinkets. Cupcake liners and coffee filters even found their way into the mix. There are so many things you can do with liners and filters---very versatile.

I had loads of fun with this one, and pretty happy with how it turned out.

Now, I'm anxious to get to my studio for the next project.

Hmmm, what will the next project be? A fairy? A wand? Posie Pocket or another crown?

I don't know---what ever suits my fancy at the time. You never know what is going to inspire you tomorrow.

ANOTHER HOORAY DAY!

Another day of spelling bee competition at school. This time it was Jacob's turn!! He did it!
Jacob won second place for 3rd grade! HIP HIP HOORAY!
It was quite a show down between him and the little girl who one 1st place. They tied twice and then, Jacob was given the word rhombus. The h stumped him---easily done---if you didn't already know it was there, how would you know? You definitely can't hear it when you say it---right?

We are so proud of you buddy, you did an amazing job today---congratulations!

Presenting the fourth grade spelling bee champion----Abby!!

She was one of ten kids in the whole 4th grade who participated yesterday at school. She said she was nervous, but we couldn't tell. Abby looked calm, cool and collected. David and I , on the other hand, were not so much. Our hearts were racing and our palms were sweaty!

I am not one to speak in front of large crowds, so seeing her up there so composed and at ease made me so glad she didn't get that gene from me!

The look on her face when she realized she won was priceless----one I will remember for a long long time....

Abigail, congratulations Sweetie, we are so proud of you!

WHO CAN RESIST A ROSE?

Not me!
I planted this rose in the garden yesterday and just had to share it with you! David and I found it at the nursery on Friday and just had to give it a home on our patio.
It is a Florabunda called Hot Cocoa. The color is simply amazing----it is a chocolaty color that stands out amongst the crowd. I'm not one to usually be drawn to the reds and oranges in the garden but I fell in love with this one, it make s me happy.
It is a vigorous grower with excellent disease resistance so I look forward to many seasons with this beauty in my garden.

"BUSY BUSY BUSY"

I have been busy these last couple weeks taking photos for my online shop. Hope of Paper Relics is designing my web page Posies on Parade. She has been so amazing to work with. Hope is very patient and has an incredible creative eye, and I just love the work that she does. She is working on a custom homepage for me and my job was to take pictures for the different shopping categories. Well, for me this has been a major undertaking and I have taken about a million pictures. I thought maybe I would share a few with you.

The photo above is a close up of a few things I have created, posie pockets, a crown and a wand. I love to imagine what the fairies (Rosie Posies) would be wearing and how they would accessorize. Would they change out their wand to match their outfit? Would their purse (posie pocket) match their crown? Hhhmmm----I wonder.........

This photo is of some of the goodies that I use to make all my things. Aaaahhh--glorious old buttons, and jewels, vintage lace, hankies, flowers, and paper ---OH MY!

And last but not least---a fairy peeking out from behind a flower---she seems to be saying something---she is whispering, and waiting, waiting for Posies on Parade to open.

I'M BACK

Wow! I have been busy since Easter. Where does the time go?
My Mom went back home Tuesday, after visiting for a week. It was so great to spend time with her. We went to lunch together, shopped, read magazines, made bracelets, and enjoyed each other's company immensely. Oh, and of course the kids loved having Grandma at the house to play with! I was so sad to see her go. I will miss her terribly. I look forward to the next time, when my Dad can come as well. Thanks for everything Mom, I love you!

On the day my mom left, I went on a school field trip with these two characters! The art club raised money for a trip to the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC.
I loved to watch Abby and Jacob take in all the beautiful art. There were so many things to
see---

But, of course there wasn't time to see it all. We'll just have to make a point to go back and experience it as a whole family.

I studied many of these paintings in college, but when you see them in person, the colors, the layers upon layers of paint, the stories that are told through each piece--- it is a whole other experience! It was absolutely breathtaking!
